Scotstoun Leisure Centre
Warm up 7am, start 7.15am, finish 8.45am (approx).
The club will be running Time Trials from 7am until 8.45am at Scotstoun Leisure Centre.
This will provide a competitive opportunity for swimmers to get timed for the first time or to improve their times in order to gain entry to more competitions.
Due to limitations on lane space it is open to all swimmers in Junior Foundation, Junior Development 1 & 2 and Club Squads only, unless otherwise advised by your coach.
Swimmers in these squads from all COGST pools i.e. Scotstoun, Maryhill, Drumchapel, Springburn, Gorbals, Tollcross may come along.
We will be running a variety of events.
Your Coach will tell you which events you should swim, but to get the most benefit from Time Trials, please swim events which you do not have a current up to date time for. You can swim three events.
We will be running more Time Trials throughout the season when we will cover other strokes and distances.
All swimmers should bring a spare towel and T shirt to dry off and keep warm between swims.
To ensure all swimmers are able to be timed we will need some parents to help on poolside as timekeepers. You don’t need any experience so if you are able to help please send your details to: This email address is being protected from spambots. Dear Swimmers & Parents
Many of you will be aware of some on-going changes to the club's coaching arrangements and I now wish to provide you with an update on that situation.
Recruitment has recently taken place to fill some of the vacancies. All coaching appointments are conducted by Glasgow Life and subject to their policies, procedures and the consequent amount of time it takes to formalise new staff in a large organisation. The club cannot influence this process and you will appreciate that it is not always possible to complete everything to ideal timescales.
Nevertheless, following the recent recruitment process I am delighted to announce that Coach Amanda Wetherell will soon be taking over as the new Lead Coach for the Junior Foundation West squad and Coach Suzanne Gumbrell will soon be taking over as the new Lead Coach for the Junior Foundation East squad.
I hope you will join me in welcoming both Amanda and Suzanne to their new roles and giving them your continued support. Your understanding and cooperation in this matter is much appreciated.
Regards
Danielle Brayson

The club received information regarding the above meet only very recently.
Entries to this meet will be accepted on a first come, first served basis but the Dumfries entry secretary has informed me that ALL swims will be accepted as long as they are entered before the meet is full.
This means that even swimmers with no times, as yet, for an event will be accepted.
The meet will be a great way of introducing younger swimmers to competitions and also those that would normally get scratched from events.
Hence the tight turn around of meet forms so we can get entries in ASAP and give our younger swimmers this opportunity.
Forms will be given to swimmers by the weekend.
I'll be at Tollcross from 5-7.30 pm on Tuesday 5th Dec and will collect forms with cash or cheques.
Should any swimmer not have forms by then please contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Dear Swimmers & Parents
Many of you will be aware of some on-going changes to the club's coaching arrangements and I now wish to provide you with an update on that situation.
Recruitment has recently taken place to fill some of the vacancies and there is some further recruitment of coaching staff still taking place. All coaching appointments are conducted by Glasgow Life and subject to their policies, procedures and the consequent amount of time it takes to formalise new staff in a large organisation. The club cannot influence this process and you will appreciate that it is not always possible to complete everything to ideal timescales.
Nevertheless, following the recent recruitment process I am delighted to announce that Coach Aaron Sievewright will soon be taking over as the new Lead Coach for the JD2 East Group. Aaron will also continue with his Junior Foundation group but in order to fulfil these duties he will be leaving his JD1 West post. One of our senior elite swimmers (Andrew McFadzean) has accepted an offer to become the new JD1 West coach and we anticipate him commencing in this role once the recruitment paperwork has been completed. Further, we are excited to confirm the appointment of Coach Ian Phillips as the new lead for Masters & Club squads. Ian has been assisting with various squads in the programme for sometime and this new role will be a great opportunity for him to formally become a squad lead coach for the first time. Both Aaron and Ian will start their new roles on 4th December, with Andrew following as soon as possible thereafter.
Earlier this week Grant Gould sadly informed us that he will no longer be able to carry on his role with JD1 East as he will begin a new full-time job in early January as a lifeguard. Grant was reluctant to leave this role but his new working hours mean it will not be possible to do both. We are hopeful that Grant will continue to assist with coaching at COGST in the future though in a voluntary capacity. Grant will continue to lead the group until 20th December when the squad breaks for Christmas and in the meantime the search for his successor and other coaches for vacant positions has already begun.
I hope you will join me in welcoming all the coaches to their new roles and giving them your continued support. Your understanding and cooperation in this matter is much appreciated.
Regards
Ian Wright
Paralympic medallist Andrew Mullen was in great form at the British University Swimming Championships (BUCS Short Course) in Sheffield from 8-10 November.
Mullen, racing for Glasgow Caledonian University, set personal best times in three of his four events, including two new Para S5 European records. The record-breaking and gold medal winning swims came in the 50m backstroke (36.18) and 50m butterfly (37.95) while he later he added top ten finishes in the 50m and 100m freestyle events.
University of the West of Scotland (UWS) biology student Craig McNally was unable to repeat his triple gold medal haul of last year but did claim bronze in the 100m backstroke as well as 5th and 6th place finishes in the finals of the 50m and 200m backstroke. Camilla Hattersley (University of Glasgow) set personal best times when placing 4th in the 100m freestyle (54.90) and 5th in the 200m backstroke (2:11.84). She also teamed up with Rhiannon Gilkes, Kate Storey, Emily Walsh and Emily Clough to help the University of Glasgow 4x50m freestyle and medley relays to impressive 5th place finishes.
Podiatry student Emily Horne (Glasgow Caledonian University) made a strong impression on her BUCS debut reaching finals of the 100m and 200m freestyle as well as the 50m and 100m butterfly events. Robyn Crawford and Gulsum Onal (both UWS) were also debut finalists with Crawford placing 10th the 50m backstroke while Onal was 10th in the 200m backstroke.
The final team points scores showed UWS in 11th overall on 40 points, GCU 12th on 38 points, University of Glasgow 18th with 30 points and University of Strathclyde 44th on 4 points. Individually, the collective Glasgow contingent won three medals and raced in thirteen finals.
Head Performance Coach, Ian Wright commented on the results: “The growing strength of university swimming in Glasgow was evident at these championships with no less than 60 city based swimmers taking part from the various institutions. For many it was still preparatory early season racing but I was obviously delighted with Andrew Mullen’s record-breaking swims and the number of finalists we had throughout the meet. We will now look to improve on these results at the Scottish and English winter national championships next month.”
Following the return for training into Tollcross main pool there has been a noticeable increase in parents going on to poolside to speak with coaches during sessions. Please be aware that only swimmers and coaches should be on the pool deck area during training sessions. If you need to speak with the coach please do so immediately before or after a session. Coaches are usually available for 10-15 minutes after each workout for this and if not they will be glad to make an appointment at a mutually convenient time. Where you need to inform the coach about an issue in advance of the session please try to do so early enough that it does not disrupt poolside activity. Essential pre-training messages (e.g. to report an illness or injury) should preferably be communicated by text or phone in advance of the session. Your cooperation and understanding in this mater is much appreciated.
Ian Wright
Due to a technical issue all swimming at Tollcross has been cancelled today 26/11/17 . Therefore the session for Developnent 1 East and West is cancelled .
Please check the Club Website for any updates .
