Dear Parent,
This Saturday 8th March 2008 I would like your help and cooperation.
Now with the new Learn to Swim Scheme being a direct feeder programme into the COGST I have asked all the Shark Teachers to come in at 8AM and see what it is we do in the Transition Squad.
So what I would like your cooperation for is this one session to come in at 8AM on Saturday instead of Sunday 9th at 5PM
Thank you in advance
Stephen Hill
Head Coach – City of Glasgow Swim Team
City of Glasgow won our first round of the Mini League at Tollcross on Sunday 10th February.
Scores were as follows:
City of Glasgow | 201 |
South Ayrshire | 117 |
Kirkintilloch | 98 |
Dunoon | 62 |
Congratulations to all swimmers who competed and a big thank you to all helpers who made the event possible.
A letter was sent out to members of the transition squad who are moving up to Bronze squad with details of training times etc.
Some of the times may have been incorrect, so just to clarify the training times are below:
Bronze East - Tollcross | Pm |
Monday | 7.00 - 8.30 |
Thursday | 4.30 - 6.00 |
Sunday | 5.00 - 7.0 |
Sorry for any confusion..
The Committee would like to thank all the parents who helped over the weekend at the Graded Long Course meet at Tollcross.
No matter how big or small the job was it was very much appreciated. Whether you gave up 1 hour or all weekend of your time it was beneficial, because if we as parents did not help we could not hold these meets. Therefore your child would be the one that loses out and would not gain the experience of competing in a 50m pool.
Thanks again to everyone that helped and made this a successful and fun meet for all the swimmers
City of Glasgow Swim Team Committee
Due to the City of Glasgow Graded Meet on 2nd/3rd February 2008, there will be no training for any squads on Sunday 3rd February at Tollcross.
No other training times are affected.
Please note that with immediate effect the Gold squad in Tollcross will no longer train on Sunday evenings.
This will be replaced by a session on Thursday mornings from 5.30am - 7.30am

Head Coach
As always this meet is one of our major fundraising ventures and we will be running the usual raffle and tombola. We would be grateful for any donations.
Anyone who would like to make a
donation can either hand it in to Cathie Robertson at our office in
Trongate or to any committee member, coach or just bring it along on the day of the meet.
As usual the club is looking for helpers to assist with the running of our meet in February. There are a large number of jobs which need to be done to help the meet to run smoothly and we need your assistance.
None of these jobs need any specific skills or knowledge of swimming and can be easily learned.
Examples of the type of help we need are:
· Selling programmes
· Taking entrance money
· Selling tombola and raffle tickets
· Supervising changing areas and swim down pool
· Copying and stapling results and distributing them
· Marshalling the swimmers at a number of points around the pool
· Preparing medals for presentation
· And many more..
There are other more specialised roles e.g. meet management, timekeeping etc. which need some more skills, but if you are interested in these then we would be happy to hear from you.
We have assigned a specific committee member who will arrange a meeting of all volunteers before the meet to outline what is required and answer any questions. They will draw up a rota for the meet and will be available on the day to make sure that everybody knows what they need to do.
This year we have increased the meet from a single day to try and ensure that as many of our own swimmers as possible are accepted, so it is even more important that we have enough helpers to cover the two days.
N.B All members who are entered for this meet will be expected to provide a helper for at least one session. Any swimmer who does not provide a helper may be withdrawn from the meet.
COGST Management Committee
We are publishing these dates so all the relevant swimmers and parents know roughly when the rounds are and hopefully then will try not to book anything else on these weekends.
Also, a major change
to the rules of the mini league is that age is now on 30th June 2008:
Round 3
24th May 2008
FINAL
14th June 2008
Swimmers selected
for the team will be notified in due course

This meet has been cancelled due to the ceiling collapsing into the pool.
All entries will be cancelled and fees returned.
There will be a Christmas Fun Night for all members of Transition, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Senior squads at Tollcross leisure centre on Sunday 23rd December from 5pm-7pm.
There will be inflatables, races, games and prizes galore.
Swimmers from all centres i.e. Knightswood, Springburn, Drumchapel and Scotstoun are welcome to attend.
Louise Clayton was interviewed recently for the Daily Record, for those of you who missed it..
TEACHING tomorrow's swimming sensations, dedicated coach Louise Clayton already knows Scotland is strokes ahead of the competition. With just over four years to go until Glasgow hosts the 20th Commonwealth Games, her teenage team are hoping to pick up some shiny medals.
Working as an assistant swim coach and development organiser with Culture and Sport Glasgow, the 26-year-old is in the perfect position to spot Scotland's future stars.
And Louise is already predicting our much-needed medal haul with go swimmingly.
She explained: "Scotland already has a strong swimming team and at the last Commonwealth Games it was our most successful sport. With that in mind, we can only improve on what we already have and as long as we remain focused we're sure to have a good team in place for 2014.
Training will remain as normal up until Sunday 23rd December 2007. After this due to pool closures and coaches off on annual leave the following programme will be in place for all centres except Knightswood, all sessions will be at Tollcross Leisure Centre:
