Sub Committee Development Group Meeting

The Development Group met again on Monday 14th July and were joined by Steven Coulter, the newly appointed Club and Volunteer Development Officer from Culture and Leisure.  The key aims of the meeting were to familiarise Steven with COGST and to explore and determine strategies for a number of issues that will form the basis of the development plan.  These included -

  • providing increased access to pool time at various locations throughout Glasgow
  • the attraction and retention of coaches and the provision of a high quality coaching development programme
  • seeking accreditation through the Scottish Swimming club development programme ‘SwiMark' (full details on their web site www.scottishswimming.com)
  • training days and stroke sessions
  • time trials and club championships
  • links with Learn to Swim

We will keep everyone informed of all progress.  In the short term we do hope to be able to offer specific training days / stroke programmes.  Please check back as we will post all details on the web site as soon as we can.

The club has once again been asked, by SASA, to provide helpers (minimum age 10) for the forthcoming Scottish National Open Championships that is being held at Tollcross Leisure Centre on Thursday 26th, Friday 27th, Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June 2008.

The helpers are needed to work with the boxes, in which the swimmers place their clothes at the start of each race, at the final sessions only each day.

If you are willing to represent the club by helping at this prestigious event, please contact Pearl Punshon on 0141 573 3234 as soon as possible.

The start times are 5.30pm and approximate finish times are 8.15pm each night. Once all volunteers have been identified a timetable will be produced and everyone will be notified of the sessions at which they are required to attend.

PLEASE NOTE THAT, AS IT IS A DIFFICULT TASK TO SUPERVISE THE CHILDREN AND THERE ARE ONLY A LIMITED NUMBER OF PLACES, NO ONE SHOULD “JUST TURN UP” ON THE DAY, PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS HAVE TO BE MADE WITH MYSELF.

All helpers must wear shorts (navy if possible) and white (if possible) City of Glasgow Swim Team Polo shirts.

Please also bring a filled water bottle.

Thank you for your help.

Mini league final news ......

Team Spirit!

Wow!  What a final it was!  The excitement started building at the Thursday training evening.  The team had got together and had an excellent night of sprints and relays with a massive doze of fun!  Their enthusiasm swelled on the bus to Ayr and they managed to stand still just long enough for some brilliant team photos!

As the children got ready the stands started to fill.  By the start of the racing it was standing room only.  The audience were fantastic, and greeted the swimmers with a wall of sound from the first blast of the starter’s horn.  By the end of the event it looked like everyone was on their feet!

Glasgow got off to an amazing start winning the opening relays and getting an early lead.  North Ayrshire fought back and as the children swam the last few races there was only 5 points between them!  North Ayrshire just clinched the title but the Glasgow swimmers were absolutely brilliant.  Every child swam at their best, giving everything for their team.  The support for each other was fantastic and the children fought for every point.

The children then took over McDonalds on the way home and celebrated an excellent team performance.  The atmosphere on the bus on the way home was fantastic and the children had a ball!

Every child who swam for the team, in the lead up to, and at the final, should be very proud of their achievements - well done!

If you would like a professional copy of the team photograph, it will only cost you £5!  All money raised goes to the club funds.  Let us know by emailing Caroline Kiddie - don’t forget to say if you want the photo with or without the coaches in it!

The following Amendments to the Club Constitution have been submitted for discussion at the AGM:

I would like to propose a change to the constitution, section C5. 1 (I propose that not only the Head coach be allowed to attend Management committee meetings, but the head coach plus three other coaches so that there is a fairer representation of coaches from other squads, The coaches chosen to attend being selected and approved by the head coach.

Proposer: Carole Gallacher
Seconder: Janice Preston

I would like to propose a change to the constitution, section C5.1 (size of Management Committee) I propose that this be changed from 4 officers of the club plus 10 other adult members to, 4 officers of the club and the amount of Adult members be left open to be decided at the AGM by the members in attendance. I feel that this is too large a club for a small committee and a larger committee would offer more members a fairer representation across the whole of the club.

Proposer: Alan Shearer
Seconder: Christine Jackson

I would like to propose that a change be made to the constitution, section C6.4.3

(Management Committee Meetings) I propose that that the Quorum be changed from 1 officer plus 40%, to Two officers plus 70% of Management Committee present before a decision can be put to a vote.

Proposer: Liane McPherson
Seconder: Karen Pettigrew

A copy of the current constitution is available in our document library

It is recommended that only adults attend this meeting.

Please note that due to the City of Glasgow meet on 4th May, all evening training at Tollcross on that day is cancelled
