coglogo2016 CG 250x250The City of Glasgow Swim Team (COGST) was formed in 1993 and now has over 300 members . Progression is by group and age; the youngest members being 5-7 year olds within the Junior Foundation squads through to the most experienced members in the Senior Performance and Senior Club groups.

The aim of the club is to provide a swim programme recognised for excellence to swimmers of all levels and the opportunity for every swimmer with the desire and commitment to progress from novice to champion. Membership of COGST is available to any child in the community who has the capability and desire to swim competitively.

A Management Committee comprising an Executive Committee (President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer) and other Committee members ensure the aims and objectives of the club are met.

The Swimming structure is important and a number of progressively graded coaching and training groups cater for each swimmer’s individual needs and long term development.

Each group is designed to benefit swimmers who are grouped together by age, ability, competitive experience and training commitment.

The number duration and intensity of the training sessions is geared to the level of development and maturation of the swimmer.

Entry into the program starts when a swimmer moves from being “taught to swim” to “being coached”. This takes the swimmers into local area development groups based at pools in the Gorbals, Knightswood, Drumchapel, Springburn, Scotstoun and Tollcross, the latter boasting the best facilities in Scotland.

From the youngest swimmers through to the seniors, hard work, commitment and dedication is essential in order to progress through the development sessions. These are structured by our Head Coach, and supported by excellent coaching staff.

For a club so young we have developed a reputation of being highly competitive and have become a centre of excellence for swimming in the West of Scotland. City of Glasgow swimmers compete at the highest levels throughout Great Britain and are proud to have represented us and achieved success in the following;

  • Scottish Schools Championship & Scottish National Age Group winners
  • West District and National District Squads
  • English National Youth Championships Winners
  • Scottish, Great Britain and World Open Water Championships
  • Commonwealth Games, World Championships, World University Games and Olympic Games
